POTD: Heckler & Koch G28 in USA

We have just one star in today’s Photo Of The Day: The Heckler & Koch G28. Here it can be seen in the

International Sniper Competition 2024 at Fort Moore. The goal of this competition was to identify the best sniper team from within the U.S. Military and NATO allies, as well as share best practices and methods.

The G28 is a classic Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR) chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, with an accuracy with a series-reproducible level of no more than 1.5 MOA when firing 10 rounds of precision ammunition at a distance of 100 meters. The riflescope is from Schmidt & Bender.

The G28 bridges the gap between an assault rifle and a sniper rifle, and I love the matte color of the handguard (essentially adding another level of FDE).

The rifle’s design includes an extended barrel nut and a dual handguard mount, which provide a secure, backlash-free connection to the receiver. This prevents zero shifting of tactical sighting accessories, ensuring consistent accuracy. Additionally, the adjustable gas port facilitates unrestricted night combat operations and supports the use of silencers.

The image is one of many from the Danish 2. Brigade, with the following caption:

“Denmark wins Best International Team – ISC 2024The International Sniper Competition 2024 in the USA is over. The Danish team from the 1st Brigade’s I Armored Infantry Battalion at the Royal Life Guard ended up in fifth place overall, but won the title of best international team, where they were far ahead of the competitors from Europe and Asia. The USA took the first four places themselves, and it was a team from the US Army 75th Ranger Regiment that won.The final position at the top:1st US Army 75th Ranger Regiment.2. US Army National Guard.3. US Army Airborne.4. US Coast Guard.5. Denmark6. US Army National Guard.7th US Army 1st Infantry Division.8th US Army 75th Ranger Regiment.9. Netherlands10th US Special Forces Airborne.Yesterday, the Danish team started in fourth place, but during yesterday’s competition – Sniper Madness – which was structured as a spectator event with constant elimination rounds, they were unfortunately eliminated in the quarter-finals. That sent them down one place in the overall score. The International Sniper Competition has been hosted by the US Army Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Moore since the late nineties. Denmark has participated since 2013. Fifth place is the best result so far. Many of the shooters meet again at the Danish International Sniper Competition in Borris in June.”

Note that the image does not portray a Danish sniper. The Danes use the Colt Canada C20.
